Spanish inverter manufacturer GPTech has opened a production line in South Africa. Local company RWW Engineering, which has been designing and manufacturing electrical equipment and turnkey projects in the nation for more than 30 years, will be responsible for assembling the line.

The Spanish company’s order book exceeds 400 MW and includes 200 MW in South Africa, which applies local content requirements to solar projects as well as the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment standards in its labor integration framework.

The commercial alliance will guarantee an after-sales service in the region, PV plant maintenance programs, a fast-spare parts service and other engineering skills

The new production line is already in operation, with a production capacity of 10 MW of power converter solutions every week. 

GPTech has been present in South Africa’s PV sector since 2013 and expects to sell its products and services in most countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including MozambiqueNamibiaZambia and Zimbabwe.
